Egypt police call on protesters to leave sit-in

CAIRO (AP) ? An Egyptian police official called Saturday on supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi to abandon their protest sit-ins, saying it would pave the way for his Muslim Brotherhood to return to a normal role in the country's political process.

The nationally televised remarks by Interior Ministry spokesman Hany Abdel-Latif came as authorities announced plans to break up the two main Cairo sit-ins by erecting cordons to prevent people from entering them.

Morsi's backers, including his Muslim Brotherhood group, have vowed to continue protesting until he's reinstated. He was ousted in a military coup July 3 after several days of protests by millions who took to the street to demand his ouster.

Abdel-Latif promised the protesters they would be able to leave without being arrested if they had not committed any crimes. He offered protection and safe passage to those willing to leave the two main camps ? a large one outside the Rabaah al-Adawiya Mosque in eastern Cairo and a smaller one near Cairo University's main campus in Giza.

"If you believe you are bringing victory to the Brotherhood, it is your safe and secure departure that will allow the Brotherhood to go back to its role in the political process," Abdel-Latif said.

He said that Islamist leaders at the sit-ins are controlling information and "brainwashing" the protesters into thinking the sit-ins are in defense of Islam.

The Interior Ministry said some of the sit-ins' organizers were involved in "killings, torture and abductions."

Last weekend, the Interior Ministry said 11 bodies were found near both protest sites, with some showing signs of torture.

The London-based rights group Amnesty International also said it had testimony of alleged killings and torture at the hands of Morsi supporters inside the sit-ins, including a witness who said he saw one man stabbed and another have his throat cut.

In a new allegation, Egypt's state news agency reported Saturday that a 25 year-old worker was detained and violently beaten at one of the sit-ins. It quoted a security official as saying that the young man was found late Friday near a military factory south of Cairo with severe bruises and injuries. He told police he was abducted two days ago by pro-Morsi protesters who were participating in a march after he criticized them.

There are fears of more bloodshed if the sit-ins are dispersed by force. Already more than 280 people have been killed in violence since Morsi's ouster. The bloodiest incident took place last week, when more than 80 pro-Morsi supporters were killed in clashes with police near the sit-in at Rabaah al-Adawiya Mosque.

Wedding Digest Naija | The Wooden Bowl ~ A touching story on ...

image

A ?frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and a four-year old grandson. The old man?s hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered.

The family ate together nightly at the dinner table. But the elderly grandfather?s shaky hands and failing sight made eating rather difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass often milk spilled on the tablecloth.

The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess. ?We must do something about grandfather,? said the son. I?ve had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor. So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner at the dinner table. Since grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl. Sometimes when the family glanced in grandfather?s direction, he had a tear in his eye as he ate alone.

Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food. The four-year-old watched it all in silence.

One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor. He asked the child sweetly, ?What are you making?? Just as sweetly, the boy responded, ?Oh, I am making the bowl for you and mama to eat.? The four-year-old smiled and went back to work.

The words so struck the parents that they were speechless. Then tears started to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done. That evening the husband took grandfather?s hand and gently led him back to the family table. For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family. And for some reason, neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled.

Children are remarkably perceptive. Their eyes ever observe, their ears ever listen, and their minds ever process the messages they absorb. If they see us patiently provide a happy home atmosphere for family members, they will imitate that attitude for the rest of their lives. The wise parent realizes that every day that building blocks are being laid for the child?s future.Let us all be wise builders and role models.

Take care of yourself, ? and those you love, today, and everyday!, especially your parents, as they are the most precious gifts ?

Personal injury lawyers defend hospital adverts | PM Law Limited

August 2 2013

The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers has defended placing adverts for compensation claims in hospitals.

The government has issued guidance to NHS trusts saying personal injury lawyer adverts ?should not be supported? and are ?unwelcome? in A&E departments and hospital wards.

According to a Sky News investigation, some hospitals are paid up to ?112,000 a year in return for allowing advertising, and some get information leaflets printed for free with adverts on the back.

Lawyers who advertise in hospitals are not doing anything illegal and?some of the long-term contracts were signed before government guidance was issued.

Deborah Evans, chief executive of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers, has defended the practice.

She said: ?If you?ve been injured the chances are high that you are going to go to a hospital. So actually law firms advertising in hospitals are reaching out to the very people who need them the most.

?As long as the advertisements are informative and educational and offer advice and assistance and support, then that is exactly the place they should be.?

Last year, health minister Simon Burns told MPs: ?It is not acceptable for that sort of advertising in NHS hospitals. I would hope that any trusts behaving in that way immediately review their procedures.?

The investigation alleged some contracts include clauses which do not allow the legal firms to take action against the hospital carrying the adverts.

The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers said it was unaware of contracts with these clauses.?

The bookstore Pages on Kensington, which did not suffer damage, started an initiative in June in which it offered to sell books to customers at cost. In addition, the store made accounts for customers who lost books in the flooding to allow others to make donations. Customers were able to e-mail the store with titles they lost for Pages staff to try to locate and the store did not charging for shipping.

The store set a deadline of July 9 originally, but extended it to July 31, according to the store's Twitter account.

?I extended the deadline because after spending two weeks with the emergency clean-up of my parents? house I knew that people weren?t ready to sit down and think clearly about what they had lost, when they were still ripping out drywall,? Pages owner Simone Lee told the website Quill and Quire in mid-July.

Several publishers, including Anansi/Groundwood, Simon & Schuster, and others offered to help Pages on Kensington with the plan, selling books to the store at discounted prices. Some, like the University of Alberta Press and Coach House Books, gave the store free copies, while Penguin Random House Canada sold books at a 50 percent discount.

Other indie stores stepped forward to help bookstores affected in Calgary, including Galiano Island Books of Galiano Island and Ella Minnow Children?s Bookstore of Toronto, which split its sales for one day with damaged Calgary bookstore Owl?s Nest. Owl?s Nest later announced it would be assisting bookstore Pixie Hollow Books, where the entire inventory was wiped out. Owl's Nest donated funds received from other bookstores as well half of their own earnings for one day to Pixie Hollow.

Texas withdraws subpoena for tweets on new abortion law

By Marice Richter

DALLAS (Reuters) - The Texas Department of Public Safety said on Thursday it had withdrawn a subpoena for information from Twitter regarding two tweets about conservative Texas lawmakers, including Governor Rick Perry, and the passage of restrictive abortion regulations.

The department had sought information, documents and records related to the Twitter accounts of Denise Romano of Austin and Michael Mayer of New York in an investigation into their tweets between July 17 and 19, the day before and after Perry signed the abortion bill into law.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Tom Vinger confirmed in an email that the subpoena had been withdrawn and said the department "will continue to investigate potential threats against public officials."

The tweets were directed at Perry and other Texas lawmakers in response to the ban on abortions in the state after 20 weeks of pregnancy and to new regulations on abortion providers.

One of the tweets on July 18 posted by Romano said, "Should we execute Perry by lethal injection or stoning for all he's killed." That post was retweeted by Mayer.

Both Mayer and Romano received support from their followers on Twitter, who expressed dismay that social media comments could be construed as a threat.

"We are pleased," said Romano's attorney Michelle Kostun, who added that the matter concerning her client is closed.

"We commend Twitter on its commitment to protecting user information and content," she added.

Twitter spokesman Jim Prosser said the social media outlet would not "confirm or comment" on the subpoena.

Oh, Snap: NeNe Leakes Had A Wedding She Didn?t Bother To Pay For

nene leakes gregg leakes

NeNe Leakes was so hype over her recent wedding redux to Gregg Leakes last month, having a lavish ceremony in Atlanta that she posted photos from all over the Internet, blah blah. The whole thing was filmed for TV, over 400 guests were in attendance and there was plenty of fun to be had for all. The problem? Uh, NeNe didn?t pay for any of this? and now she?s being sued by her wedding planner.

From TMZ:

The woman going after Leakes is Tiffany Cook ? who claims NeNe hired Dream Design Weddings to coordinate the party for her marriage to Gregg Leakes on June 22, 2013 ? a wedding that will featured on a Bravo TV special in September.

In her suit, filed in Georgia, Cook claims Leakes promised to pay her 15% of the entire wedding budget PLUS fees design and execution of the wedding PLUS travel expenses to the event.

In total, Cook claims NeNe?s budget for the wedding was $1.8 MILLION!!!!!!!!! And Cook claims she was due $270k (the 15%) PLUS another $889,900 (design fees) PLUS $1,750 (4 coach tickets from Florida to Georgia).

Cook claims NeNe did fork over the initial down payment ($18,750) ? but she hasn?t seen a penny since ? and is suing for the remaining $1,142,900 balance ? PLUS damages.

In total, Cook ? who also put together Kordell Stewart?s wedding to Porsha ? wants more than $2.5 MILLION for her troubles.

Sounds like a hot mess. Also, how the hell is she due another nearly million dollars for design fees if the entire wedding budget was $1.8 million? Like, girl, no. Something tells me there?s some lying going on here. If you didn?t receive full payment for all of your services, fair enough. But to try and tack on all this other money ? $2.5 million in total, which is almost a million MORE than the ENTIRE WEDDING BUDGET ? then you need to get to steppin?.

South Africa faces challenge of curbing inflation: Marcus

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - The South African Reserve Bank is concerned about keeping inflation within its 3-6 percent target band and about pricey labour deals fanning inflationary pressure in Africa's largest economy, Governor Gill Marcus said on Wednesday.

Marcus also said reducing chronic unemployment was one of the country's most pressing policy objectives and South Africa needed to diversify beyond the mining sector that has traditionally accounted for about 4-6 percent of the economy.

Government data a day earlier showed unemployment was at 25.6 percent in the second quarter and about 4.7 million South African job seekers were without work, the highest figure in the survey's five-year history.

Marcus said South Africa has faced a jobs crisis for the better part of three decades and its effects would be around for years, partly because of structural challenges.

Labour strife in mining over the past year has slowed production of minerals for export and been a drag on growth. Mining houses have reached wage deals well above the 6 percent inflation rate to bring calm to the troubled sector.

Marcus said labour regulations have not lived up to expectations, with collective bargaining favouring large firms, at the expense of small and medium-sized firms that provide most jobs.

South Africa's labour laws have been ranked as some of the most restrictive in the world, making labour less competitive than other emerging markets.

The unemployment rate has been stuck at around 22-25 percent for more than a decade and is one of the biggest headaches for President Jacob Zuma's ruling African National Congress as the country heads into elections next year.

Farley leaves AACo - Agriculture - Agribusiness - General News ...

THE boss of Australian Agricultural Company (AACo) ? the country?s biggest corporate beef producer - has exited the position.

AACo this morning revealed current chief executive David Farley would cease employment with the company.

But in its announcement to the Australian Securities Exchange it offered little explanation as to the reason for his departure.

?David has done a very good job and we thank him for his considerable contribution to the company,? AACo chairman Donald McGauchie said in the statement.

A past boss of Colly Cotton in Australia and Calcot in the United States, Mr Farley had been chief executive of AACo since December 2009.

Mr McGauchie said Mr Farley?s skills had been essential to bring the company to where it was today but indicated the next CEO would require ?a different skill set? to lead its next stage of growth.

Chief financial officer Craig White has been appointed interim CEO while the company conducts an executive search that it says will be internal and external.

Mr White, the former CFO at Billabong International and a former financial director with Coca-Cola, has only been with AACo since April.

Construction of one of the largest abattoirs in northern Australia at Livingstone, south of Darwin, has reportedly caused some friction within the company.

Mr Farley announced in April this year AACo would pay for the $85 million abattoir being built near Darwin off its own balance sheet.

"AACo has had numerous discussions with potential joint-venture partners, but... AACo will only consider a joint venture if the partner brought strategic value to the project, such as logistics or distribution capability, on terms acceptable to AACo," Mr Farley said in a statement.

The lengthy staged process of building the abattoir is said to have frustrated some board members.

AACo has recently been selling some of its Queensland properties, in a move the company said is part of its strategy to refocus capital in Northern Australia, after announcing its March 2013 quarter profits were negatively affected by the cattle price slump.

The properties include Brighton Downs, a 420,000 hectare cattle station near Winton, and Adelong, a 5200ha dryland farming and grazing property at Comet.

While the announcement of a disappointing first-quarter earnings result in May cast a cloud over the company, attributable to a $43.2 million revaluation of its herd, AACo's share price performed strongly in the last week of June, increasing from $1.10 to close at $1.17. Trading was strong with the second highest weekly volume recorded in the last 12 months.

The share price then hovered between $1.18 and $1.27 through July.

The company was rebounding from close to a 12-month low after falling sharply from a high of $1.41 in February. Its share price this morning (July 31) sat at $1.20, little changed from recent days.

More to come.

Newly described mechanism could lead to stronger LEDs for more widespread use

Troy, N.Y. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute researchers have identified the mechanism behind a plague of LED light bulbs: a flaw called "efficiency droop" that causes LEDs to lose up to 20 percent of their efficiency as they are subjected to greater electrical currents. Efficiency droop, first reported in 1999, has been a key obstacle in the development of LED lighting for situations, like household lighting, that call for economical sources of versatile and bright light.

In a paper recently published in Applied Physics Letters, the researchers identify a phenomena known as "electron leakage" as the culprit. The research offers the first comprehensive model for the mechanism behind efficiency droop, and may lead to new technologies to solve the problem, said E. Fred Schubert, the Wellfleet Senior Constellation Professor of Future Chips at Rensselaer, founding director of the university's National Science Foundation-funded Smart Lighting Engineering Research Center, and senior author on the study.

"In the past, researchers and LED manufacturers have made progress in reducing efficiency droop, but some of the progress was made without understanding what causes the droop," said Schubert. "I think now we have a better understanding of what causes the droop and this opens up specific strategies to address it."

Light-emitting diodes take advantage of the fact that high-energy electrons emit photons, i.e. particles of light, as they move from a higher to a lower energy level. The light-emitting diode is constructed of three sections: an "n-type" section of crystal that is loaded with negatively charged electrons; a p-type section of crystal that contains many positively charged "holes;" and a section in between the two called the "quantum well" or "active region."

David Meyaard, first author on the study and a doctoral student in electrical engineering, explains that electrons are injected into the active region from the n-type material as holes are injected into the active region from the p-type material. The electrons and holes move in opposite directions and, if they meet in the active region, they recombine, at which point the electron moves to a lower state of energy and emits a photon of light. Unfortunately, researchers have noticed that as more current is applied, LEDs lose efficiency, producing proportionally less light as the current is increased.

Meyaard said the team's research shows that, under the "high current regime," an electric field develops within the p-type region of the diode, allowing electrons to escape the active region where they would otherwise recombine with holes and emit photons of light. This phenomenon, known as "electron leakage," was first proposed more than five years ago, but Meyaard said the team's research is the first incontrovertible evidence that it is the cause behind efficiency droop. Meyaard said the team identified the electric field as it began to build up, and showed that, after a sufficiently strong field is built up, the electrons escape out of the active region.

"We measure excellent correlation between the onset of field-buildup and the onset of droop," said Meyaard. "This is clear evidence that the mechanism is electron leakage, and we can describe it quantitatively. For example, in one key result reported in the paper, we show the onset of high injection and the onset of droop and you can see that they are very nicely correlated. And that was just not possible in the past because there was really no theoretical model that described how electron leakage really works."

Schubert said their work shows that because electrons have a greater "mobility" than holes, the diode is made from disparate types of carriers.

"If the holes and the electrons had similar properties, there is a symmetry; both would meet in the middle, where the quantum well is, and there they recombine," said Schubert. "What we have instead is a material system where the electrons are much more mobile than the holes. And because they are very mobile, they diffuse more easily, they also react more easily to an electric field. Because of that asymmetry, or disparity, we have a propensity of the electrons to 'shoot over' and to be extracted from the quantum well. And so they don't meet the hole in the active region and so they don't emit light."

Meyaard and Schubert said the team has now turned their attention to developing a new structure for LEDs, based on the model, which they look forward to introducing.

###

The paper, published in the June 27 edition of Applied Physics Letters, is titled "Identifying the cause of the efficiency droop in GaInN light-emitting diodes by correlating the onset of high injection with the onset of the efficiency droop."

Meyaard and Schubert said the team has now turned their attention to developing a new structure for LEDs, based on the model, which they look forward to introducing.

The paper, published in the June 27 edition of Applied Physics Letters, is titled "Identifying the cause of the efficiency droop in GaInN light-emitting diodes by correlating the onset of high injection with the onset of the efficiency droop."

Israel cabinet approves Palestinian prisoner release

JERUSALEM: The government Sunday approved the contentious release of long-serving Palestinian and Israeli Arab prisoners, reportedly including some with Israeli blood on their hands, to coincide with renewed peace talks, public radio said.

It said the 22-member cabinet approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's proposal to free prisoners by a vote of 13 in favour, seven against and two abstentions.

In an open letter published on his official Facebook site Saturday, Netanyahu said he had agreed "to free 104 Palestinians in stages, after the start of negotiations and according to progress" and that he would seek cabinet endorsement.

His office said in a statement on Sunday that the cabinet also approved peace talks with the Palestinians brokered by the United States but without elaborating where or when.

The statement, however, did not announce that a prisoner release had been approved, only mentioning the formation of a committee on the issue.

"The government approved the opening of negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians... and mandated a ministerial committee for the release of prisoners during the course of the talks," it said.

A Palestinian official told AFP on Saturday that peace talks, stalled since September 2010, would open in Washington on Tuesday.

The chief Palestinian negotiator lauded the Israeli vote on prisoners.

"We welcome the Israeli government's decision to release the prisoners," Saeb Erakat told AFP. "We consider this an important step and hope to be able to seize the opportunity provided by the American administration's efforts."

The start of Sunday's cabinet meeting was delayed for over an hour, as Israeli media said Netanyahu sought to win over opponents within his own rightwing Likud party.

While the names of the prisoners have yet to be officially published, or even revealed to ministers, they reportedly include militants convicted of killing Israeli women and children or of killing Palestinians suspected of collaborating with Israel.

"This moment is not easy is for me, not easy for the ministers, and especially not easy for the bereaved families," Netanyahu's office quoted him as telling ministers at the start of the meeting.

The planned releases have stirred protests from Israeli victims' families, settlers and Netanyahu's hardline coalition partners.

"Releasing terrorists for peace is like trying to put out a fire with gasoline. It is dangerous, immoral and irresponsible," settler leader Dani Dayan said in a statement.

Likud deputy defence minister Danny Danon urged the party's ministers to vote "no".

"I say that this is a diplomatic mistake, a moral mistake,' he told public radio.

French Foreign Minister Fabius hailed the planned resumption of talks.

"I welcome this potentially major step forward which comes after a three-year hiatus and I wish that these negotiations manage to result in an agreement," Fabius said on Sunday.

Ahead of the talks, the Israeli cabinet has also approved an "urgent and important" bill which would require a referendum for a peace treaty in some circumstances.

A cabinet briefing paper said the government would ask parliament to fast-track its passage into law.

If adopted, the bill would oblige a referendum in cases where territory over which Israel claims sovereignty is ceded in a peace agreement or by a cabinet decision.

While a plebiscite would not be a requirement in the case of Israeli withdrawal from the rest of the West Bank, it would apply to changes in any part of mainly-Arab east Jerusalem, which Israel occupied in the 1967 Six-Day War and annexed in a move never recognised by the international community.

The Palestinians claim east Jerusalem for the capital of their own promised state. Israel rules out ceding sovereignty over any part of what it calls its "eternal and indivisible capital".

Qadura Fares, head of the Palestinian Prisoners' Club which tracks the treatment of Palestinians in Israeli jails, warned on Sunday there would be no peace talks unless all 104 prisoners returned to their homes.

"If they don't free all of them, there will be no negotiations," he told public radio.

Russians smell something fishy in Putin's latest stunt

MOSCOW (Reuters) - There was a time when Vladimir Putin's macho antics inspired pride among Russians, but many are finding it hard to believe the president's latest stunt - catching a huge pike in Siberia.

Video footage released by the Kremlin last week showed Putin dressed in camouflage fatigues and sunglasses, fishing, driving a motorboat and petting reindeer in a remote region of Siberia with his prime minister and defense minister.

But the images of the 60-year-old president hauling in a pike which the Kremlin said weighed 21 kg (46 pounds) proved too much for some Russians to swallow.

Within hours, online satirists were questioning whether the incident was staged and whether the pike was really as big as the Kremlin said.

"Wonder who planted that fish for Putin to catch," said a caption placed under two online pictures, one of Putin holding the fish and the other showing Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev emerging from a river in a wetsuit with a satisfied look.

Experienced anglers posted photographs of large pike they had caught, questioning the size and weight of the ex-KGB officer's catch.

One photo caption called it "Churov's Pike" - a reference to election commission chief Vladimir Churov who is accused by the opposition of conjuring victory for Putin's party in elections which they say were marred by fraud. He denies doing so.

Putin has often burnished his image since first coming to power in 2000 with outdoor exploits such as riding a horse with a bare torso and shooting a tiger with a tranquilizer.

But the Kremlin admitted under pressure that a stunt in 2011, in which Putin found ancient artifacts at the bottom of the Black Sea, was staged. When he flew with migrating storks last year, he was widely mocked online.

This time, the Kremlin stood firm.

"I personally saw the scales and was present in the weighing. It was seriously more than 20 kg (44 lb)," Putin's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, told Interfax news agency.

Putin remains Russia's most popular politician, with a recent opinion poll showing his trust level at 45 percent, but his authority was dented by mass protests in Moscow and other big cities that began in late 2011 and carried on into 2012.

FBI arrests 150 in child prostitution ring

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The FBI arrested 150 people across the United States for holding children against their will for prostitution, a three-day weekend sweep that officials on Monday called the largest-ever operation of its kind.

The suspects were arrested in 76 U.S. cities and are expected to face state and federal charges related to sex crimes and human trafficking, FBI and U.S. Justice Department officials said at a news conference.

FBI agents and local police recovered 105 children during the operation at truck stops, motels, casinos and other places where they were held against their will for prostitution, officials said.

Children who are most vulnerable to being exploited for sex crimes are between 13 and 16 years old without strong ties to family members, officials said.

"We are trying to take this crime out of the shadows and put a spotlight on it," said FBI Assistant Director Ronald Hosko.

Google Nexus 7 Vs. iPad Mini: 6 Key Factors

Google Nexus 7, Chromecast: Visual Tour

Google Nexus 7, Chromecast: Visual Tour

(click image for larger view) Google's second-generation Nexus 7 tablet, introduced on Wednesday, delivers significantly better performance than its predecessor and surpasses Apple's iPad Mini in several ways.

The new Nexus 7, known as "Razor," trades its white back for black. No longer two-tone, the 7-inch tablet might not reflect as much light as its first incarnation but it still outshines the competition, at least for the time being. In the coming months, Apple and other tablet makers are likely to respond. But for now, the new Nexus 7 deserves serious consideration if you're looking to buy a 7-inch tablet.

1. Screen
The best thing about the Nexus 7 Razor is its screen. The 7.02-inch 1920-pixel-by-1200-pixel HD display (323 ppi) looks great, provided you're viewing content prepared with a high-resolution screen in mind. It's ideal for gaming and video, thanks to its 16:9 aspect ratio, which is similar to the iPhone 5's. The iPad Mini has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which isn't optimal for HD video but works well for reading ebooks. The crispness of text on the Nexus 7 offers some compensation for its narrower pages.

2. Price
The Nexus 7 starts at $229 for the 16-GB model. The 16-GB iPad Mini starts at $329, 43% more than the Nexus. Add 16 GB of additional memory to the Nexus and the cost rises to $269. Add 16 GB of additional memory to the iPad Mini and the cost rises to $429. If money is no object, buy both and donate your least favorite to a worthy cause. If money matters, the Nexus 7 is the clear winner.

3. Graphics/Processor
The quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro, which runs at 1.5 GHz, should outperform the older dual-core Apple A5 (1 GHz) in the iPad Mini, particularly with applications that take advantage of Open GL ES 3.0, a new addition to Android 4.3. Even so, outside of graphically demanding apps, processor power isn't everything.

4. Wireless Charging
Charging by cable is not a problem, but it can be a hassle. The Nexus 7 supports wireless charging, so you can put it down on an inductive charging pad and have it charge without attaching any cables. Wireless charging requires extra investment -- inductive charging pads range from $30 to $80 or so online. But you might find it worth the effort.

5. Android
Android 4.3 is the best version of Android yet. For iOS zealots, Android is not an option, particularly with iOS 7 promised in a few months. Personally, Android has grown on me, to the point that I'm content in either operating system. I still find many iOS apps more responsive than their Android versions and prefer the simpler iOS UI conventions, but the relative openness and customizability of Android appeals to me.

6. Google Play
Google Play offers a better purchase experience than Apple's iTunes Store, mainly because it works on the Web rather than in a separate application. Apple has really missed the boat by failing to allow customers to purchase iTunes content directly from the Web.

Beyond these features, the Nexus 7 and the iPad Mini are more or less evenly matched. Both have 1.2-MP front-facing cameras and 5-MP rear-facing cameras. Both support Bluetooth 4.0. Both support dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4G/5G) 802.11 a/b/g/n. Both claim about 10 hours of battery life. Both come with more or less the same sensors. Their respective weights differ by only a few grams. Really, it's hard to go wrong with either device.

If you're committed exclusively to Apple products, well, there's not much that can be said to convince you to venture outside Apple's walled garden. But if you're open to a great Android tablet at great price, take a look at Google's new Nexus 7.

Home Improvement Tips That Will Add Value To Any Home

As your family size changes, you will need to consider making some changes to your home. There are many different options for home improvement available to you. Read this article to find out how you could improve your home.

If you are seriously considering buying a home, get it inspected by a professional. It is best to get a professional opinion in case there is anything that you missed when walking through the home. A third party professional is objective and can keep the process civil.

When managing your home in the summer months, make use of as many fans as you can. Ceiling fans help circulate air, which will help in cooling the room. Use both ceiling fans and stationary fans in lieu of your air conditioner to keep both the air and your utility bill cool.

If your space is limited, think about purchasing a small, stackable washer and dryer. These combo units are great space savers in apartments and homes with not a lot of extra space. There are different types and styles of combination washer/dryers, but most types will fit in about the same space as a dishwasher. These machines wash and dry clothes in the same unit.

If a designer is out of your price range, it is time to do your own research. Look everywhere you can for ideas, from books and magazines to blogs and websites. A magazine layout can serve as the inspiration for your own home?s design. You?ll also find projects that can be completed while staying within your budget.

When you need professional help with a home improvement project, be sure that you and your workers draw up a written contract before any work is done. This way they cannot take advantage of you or add extra charges since everything is down in writing. It would be all too easy to take advantage of you if you employ workers without a contract.

Creating clearly defined living spaces makes it easier to sell your home. Each room should have the appropriate accessories and furniture. When you do this, each room in the house looks more comforting and comfortable to live in. Well defined spaces makes a house attractive, and it will be easier to sell.

Basements generally have little, if any, natural light. Plan your basement well so that it gets enough light coming in. Some basements have walls which reach above the ground outside. In this case, you can have windows as well.

A finished basement adds both value and comfort to your home. You can increase the total square footage of livable space available to your family by finishing a basement. Get your materials from discount stores. Remodeling your basement could add more than 30% to your house?s resale value.

Consider installing a shower in at least one bathroom if you don?t already have one. In addition to being significantly more accessible than a tub, you can greatly reduce the amount of water used by your household ? especially if you have children. A five minute shower will use a quarter of the water that a bath will.

It is important to insulate outdoor faucets and other plumbing in preparation for the winter months. You can purchase weatherizing tape that is easy to apply to your plumbing lines. The tape will prevent your pipes from freezing which could lead to a pipe burst.

Now that you are armed with a few solid tips to guide you, making a sound decision regarding home improvement should seem less daunting. Remember, quality home improvements to your home will not only allow you to have a more desirable space but will also improve the overall value of your home.

12 Innocent Topics That Britain's New Hyper-Censored Internet Will Probably Block

2013-07-22 11.55.23-editedBritish Prime Minister David Cameron?has proposed the democratized world's most aggressive anti-porn laws. Unfortunately, in order to restrict access to something as ubiquitous as porn, he'll likely have to block most of the Internet. To protect "children and their innocence," Cameron has proposed new regulations that will filter online porn by default and completely exclude blacklisted terms from search engines. While details are still scant, all new Wi-Fi routers will automatically filter porn, and millions of existing Internet users will have to opt-in through some type of online consent form to access adult material.

Search Engine Marketing? The Full Package deal | OptimizareSite.org

Search Engine Marketing-- The Full Package deal
Search Engine Marketing? The Full Package deal

After carrying out extensive research I have actually concerned the verdict that there is a great deal of misunderstanding surrounding the subject of Search Engine Advertising. The greatest misconception joins perplexing the terms Online search engine Marketing (SEM) and Online search engine Optimisation (SEO).

One would certainly believe that those individuals claiming to be SEO experts must be well-informed regarding the subject and identify the clear distinction. Evidently this is not the instance; the web teems with misguided details, from so called specialists. Proving, I suppose that the business is satisfactorily sprayed with cowboys.

To start, let us first define the term ?Online search engine Optimization? (henceforth described as SEO).

Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization is the process of maneuvering the structure and content of a site as though it will certainly perform even better in the search engine?s natural listings. The techniques entailed can be sub-structured in to many areas of task, as comprehensive below.

1) Web page preparedness? Search engines expect to crawl tidy HTML code. Every page of an internet site must be confirmed to do away with errors and sloppy html coding.

2) Website preparedness? Online search engine internet bots comply with the links on your web pages and consequently find new web pages to index. If a web bot meets a broken link it could not continue spidering your site. Ensure you have no busted links. Additionally, give a site chart. A tool for creating site charts is available at my site, www.pro-seo.co.uk.

3) Key words option? It is essential to select the right key phrases for which a specific web page is to be optimized. The most noticeable key words are not always the best selection, and are frequently mega-competitive. Decide on wisely.

4) Site structure? Your web site ought to be structured as though each web page can be enhanced for a max of two key phrases. Do not try to enhance for a lot of key phrases on one page. Don?t forget, you need to write for your individuals. Composing duplicate is a balancing act that keeps both users and search engines delighted, and is better attained on a well structured website.

5) Copy writing? the visible text on your web pages ought to be structured to consist of the two essential key phrases for that web page?s material. Obtain the key words into headers. Operate the key words in to paragraph text, having your key words show up near the beginning, near the middle, and near the end. Make some keywords bold, some italic and some underscored.

6) HTML tags? The most vital of these is the Title tag. Obtain both key words for that page into the Title tag, without repeating. For instance, if your main key expression is ?dieting plan plans?, and your 2nd expression is ?diet supplements?, the Title tag ought to read ?diet regimen plans and supplements?. Do not repeat the word diet, to search engines it may appear like spamming. If your primary problem is to enhance your Google rank, you may have overlooked the Meta key words and Meta summary tags, do not, there are a lot more search engines than Google and they can all bring traffic. Also, get the key phrases into H1 tags, H2 tags, alt features, and critical, your web link content.

And after doing everything for each page in your web site you may be asking: so where does SEM come in?

SEM

SEM includes SEO plus all the other points you can do to improve your exposure in the search engines and boost targeted visitors to your web site. A condensed checklist could be as complies with:.

1) SEO (see above).
2) A hyperlink building technique.
3) Pay per click (PPC) projects.
4) Banner exchanges.
5) Press releases.
6) And any other activity that will acquire your website observed.

SEM then, is the complete package. Whereas SEO techniques are a vital, but not the only, part of that package deal.

The CEO's Role in Sales | Sales Motivation and Sales Training

two businesspeople 300x199 The CEOs Role in Sales photoCEOs who stand on the side and don?t think they need to be involved in sales other than discussing the business with the VP of Sales in a weekly meeting are failing to understand their role.

CEOs must be engaged with sales and understand what is happening in the marketplace. ?This is part of solid sales leadership, and sadly too many CEOs downplay this aspect.

I encounter far too many CEOs who can?t recall accurately the last sales call they made.

CEOs who fail to spend any time in the field are subject to having their view of sales be filtered 100% by what the VP of Sales wants to share with them.

By the very nature of their title, CEOs have the ability to have discussions with customers who won?t entertain such discussions from other people lower in the company. ?Yes, the title ?CEO? can make a difference. CEOs can ask questions others can?t ask.? Better yet, CEOs will find out insights from customers that other people simply won?t be able to uncover.

A CEO who is engaged in the sales process will, over a period of time, identify significant opportunities.? If a board does not require their CEO to be with customers occasionally, then the board is failing in their responsibility to the shareholders.

The amount of time a CEO should be out with customers is a moving target, as it can vary dramatically by industry, time of year, company objectives, etc.?? A good rule, however, is a CEO should make at least one customer visit per month.

One customer visit per month is not too much to ask, and over the course of a year, this would allow a CEO to gain a broad understanding of what is happening.? Also, by visiting a customer a month, several new significant opportunities will emerge. ?That?s good business all the way around!

Is a CEO going on calls a threat to the sales force?? No, because the CEO is merely doing what they should be doing.? I see it more as a gain, because the CEO is opening doors and helping improve the overall business.
