Avoid These Product Launch Mistakes Or You'll be the One Paying ...

Creating a good product is only the first half of the equation, because if you truly want to make it a big success then you should know how to launch it the right way. There are product launches every day with some being bad and some extremely successful. So what are some of the items that make a successful product launch possible? And what are some of the important locations that you must concentrate on to make it the most advantageous? Although there are many different kinds of things that can make it successful, this article will talk about 3 errors that can make your product launch fizzle.

Keep it simple sweetie. It makes no sense to make it harder than it has to be. Creating too much content for the launch will only overwhelm people. Make every effort to ensure that every element that can be streamlined is. When you?re creating a launch, it?s all about giving away good content on bits so that your prospects are able to see it clearly and understand it better. If you give them too much knowledge they won?t need your product. For the sake of your product launch you need to understand that less information is more money in your pockets. Condense video instruction to short lessons for the sake of your product launch. Divide your content in such a way that it becomes easy to digest. Keep your content entertaining and informative. An interesting presentation will stand out miles above all others provided that it gives relevant and useful information in the process. There are a number of various ways for growing Website Automation Wizard with good results in a web business. How well you understand the people in your particular niche is critical, and it seems to us, based on observation, that lots of marketers have no clue about it. Demographic research will provide you with in-depth information that can potentially produce excellent returns if used properly. Knowing how to reach out in the most powerful way to your market is one thing that many businesses do not perform well. Any niche market will only relate to the words you write when they are in terms used by the audience of that particular market. Even in the shortest marketing message, your words must still be able to build that bridge through strong identification with what you say and how you say it.

This is a time when it?s a good idea to delegate and/or outsource.

No one is perfect and all knowing when it comes to small business ownership. Don?t make the same mistakes many entrepreneurs make of trying to do too much before a product launch. The problem is that quality and effectiveness are casualties of taking on too much. Mastering the fine art of delegation can save you from tasks you aren?t qualified for as well as those you simply dislike doing.

If you make a point of building a better relationship with your list you?ll find that they are cheering you on when your launch arrives in addition to buying your products. Do not lose sight of the type of business environment existing on the internet.

The internet can really keep you on your toes, or it should, because that is the history of this environment.

There can be a lot of reasons for this type of dynamic nature, and it is really easy to understand if you are familiar with what can go on. This article touches on Consumer Wealth System for your consideration, but remember you should look at that as just one facet of what you do. You need to think long-term regarding methods, techniques and similar items to make sure the impact is favorable and will not put you on thin ice. Due diligence and make your decision about it; go or no go ? experiment and test everything and have no fear.

All in all, this article shows that when you make mistakes with your product launch, it will bomb because you won?t get a second chance to fix it. This is why you should always make the effort to properly plan the launch of your product so that it will be a success. We have shown you what is possible when you use methods involving Affiliate revolution, and they can produce positive results through intelligent application.

Yes, we have given you three good points in this article, but that by no means will make you competent on the subject. These methods can work hand-in-hand with paid for ads, for example, and that is possible even on a small budget. If you want to be cautious with your business, and not all people are, but if so then pause before throwing your entire business into something new. Remember that you want to keep your risks at a minimum until you feel good enough with assuming more risk. Of course it is your decision, but we like to err on the side of caution especially when we are making recommendations like this. We obviously cannot force you to use sound business practices, and so you need to recognize their value and use them.

Crocodiles Trump T. Rex as Heavyweight Bite-Force Champions, new study shows

ScienceDaily (Mar. 30, 2012) ? Paul M. Gignac, Ph.D., Instructor of Research, Department of Anatomical Sciences, Stony Brook University School of Medicine, and colleagues at Florida State University and in California and Australia, found in a study of all 23 living crocodilian species that crocodiles can kill with the strongest bite force measured for any living animal. The study also revealed that the bite forces of the largest extinct crocodilians exceeded 23,000 pounds, a force two-times greater than the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex.

Their data, reported online in PLoS One, contributes to the understanding of performance in animals from the past and provides unprecedented insight into how evolution has shaped that performance.

In "Insights into the Ecology and Evolutionary Success of Crocodilians Revealed through Bite-Force and Tooth-Pressure Experimentation," the researchers detail their examination of the bite force and tooth pressure of every species of alligator, crocodile, caiman, and gharial. Led by Project Director Gregory Erickson, Ph.D., Professor of Biological Science at Florida State University, the study took more than a decade to complete and required a diverse team of croc handlers and scientists.

"Crocodiles and alligators are the largest, most successful reptile hunters alive today, and our research illustrates one of the key ways they have maintained that crown," says Dr. Gignac.

The team roped 83 adult alligators and crocodiles and placed a force meter between their back teeth and recorded the bite force. They found that gators and crocs have pound-for-pound comparable maximal bite forces, despite different snouts and teeth. Contrary to previous evolutionary thinking, they determined that bite force was correlated with body size but showed surprisingly little correlation with tooth form, diet, jaw shape, or jaw strength.

Dr. Gignac emphasizes that the study results suggest that once crocodilians evolved their remarkable capacity for force-generation, further adaptive modifications involved changes in body size and the dentition to modify forces and pressures for different diets.

The team has been contacted by editors of the "Guinness Book of World Records" inquiring about the data.

Among living crocodilians, the bite-force champion is a 17-foot saltwater croc, with a force measured at 3,700 pounds.

"This kind of bite is like being pinned beneath the entire roster of the New York Knicks," says Dr. Gignac, illustrating the tremendous force displayed by the living creatures. "But with bone-crushing teeth."

The research was funded by the National Geographic Society and the Florida State University College of Arts and Sciences.

Microsoft reveals how your old slate will get all of Windows 8's charms (video)

Image
Being able to touch, click and press your way around an operating system with a variety of hardware configurations, while not alienating potential upgraders, is no mean feat. That said, Microsoft thinks it might have the solution. By introducing a new mode, a 20 pixel buffer will be designated to working with those edge swipes we've heard about. It'll also go towards preventing accidental hits around the, typically less sensitive, edges of older screens. It does mean that you'll be losing a little real estate, but perhaps a small trade-off for being able to keep your Windows 7 touchscreen device. Going forward, Microsoft will be working with hardware providers to ensure new gear really shows off the new features of Win 8, but for now, legacy users can look forward to a better experience. Hit the source below for the full rundown.

Small Business Innovation | Document Management Blog

Sparking innovation in a small business isn?t just a matter of sitting around waiting for good ideas to pop into your CEO?s head. Innovation comes from a lot of places, and the right environment can turn all of your employees into idea generators.

Recently Karl Start and Bill Steward of Avondale Strategic Partners, a business advisory company, posted an article on Inc about reigniting innovation in a business (read it here). It was a great post that focused on getting ideas from the field ? customers and employees who spend time with customers. The three principal actions they proposed were:

  1. Get cozy with customers
  2. Empower your team
  3. Execute fast and revise quickly

Excellent ideas and you should read the post. It also reminds us of a post that our CEO & resident cloud computing expert wrote a couple of years about entitled ?4 Tips to Spark Innovation in Your Small Business.?

Prasad?s small business innovation ideas

Prasad?s ideas were different, but along the same lines as the executives from Avondale. Prasad said, ?Small businesses are the major driver in both job growth and innovation in the United States. But when you are actually running a small business, finding the time to foster innovation can be overwhelmed by cash, economic, resource and time constraints. Here are four tips that I have found that foster innovation at my company and that I believe can be applied to most businesses.?

  1. Encourage all employees to solve company problems
  2. Allow individual employees time to work on a project of their choosing
  3. Provide employees experiences in every aspect of the company
  4. Consult customers for improvements and new ideas

Innovation can happen in a vacuum, but usually it is driven by the right work and team environment. We hope that another way you can generate innovative ideas to grow your small business is by letting the power of cloud computing free up your time and resources so that you can focus on solving problems for your customers.

Santorum wins Louisiana, flexing Southern muscle

NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - Rick Santorum won the Louisiana Republican presidential primary on Saturday, adding an 11th state to his total but still trailing Mitt Romney by a wide margin in the national delegate count toward the party nomination.

Santorum had strong support in all income groups except for the very wealthy, and solid backing from conservative and religious voters in the Deep South state.

"The people of Louisiana sent a loud and clear message - this race is far from over," Santorum said in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where he watched the election results after making a series of campaign stops.

Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, was projected to finish second. Former House of Representatives Speaker Newt Gingrich was third - a result that is likely to amplify calls for him to drop out - with Texas congressman Ron Paul fourth.

Santorum, a socially conservative former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, has done well in the Deep South, winning Mississippi and Alabama earlier this month. In all, Santorum has won seven state contests in March.

Saturday's primary allocated only 20 of Louisiana's 46 total Republican delegates as candidates spar for the right to take on Democratic President Barack Obama in the November general election. The rest of the delegates will be allocated at the state party convention in June.

With 75 percent of the precincts reporting, Santorum had 49 percent of the vote, Romney 26 percent and Gingrich 16 percent. If those totals hold, Santorum and Romney would both gain delegates from Louisiana, with Gingrich shut out.

Exit polls showed that 47 percent of Republican primary voters identified themselves as "very conservative," and of those Santorum beat Romney by 52 percent to 24 percent.

Santorum also won majorities among voters calling themselves "somewhat conservative" or "moderate," and those who said that religion matters a lot in public life.

A Republican candidate needs 1,144 delegates to secure the party's nomination. CNN's current delegate count puts Romney well ahead, with 563 delegates to Santorum's 259.

VOTER TURNOUT LOW

Exit polls showed voters in Louisiana, which has a relatively low 6.9 percent unemployment rate but also low median income, were most concerned about the economy and the budget deficit.

The state has been hammered economically in the past decade, first by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and then by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Still, Santorum found backing from the state's many Christian evangelicals. Louisiana also has a large block of Roman Catholic voters who, as a group, are regarded as more conservative than Catholics in many other states.

"He's a Christian man. I like many of the things he says, about gasoline prices, and healthcare. He's for everything I'm for," said Ronald Moore, 78, a retired commercial contractor from Monroe.

Voter turnout at many precincts was low, according to election officials, even though state Republican leaders had hoped that having the nomination still in the balance would boost turnout.

All four remaining Republican candidates visited Louisiana in the days leading up to the vote.

Gingrich spent a week here, crisscrossing the state from Shreveport in the northwest to Port Fourchon on the Gulf of Mexico. Despite his lowly finish, Gingrich has so far rejected calls to drop out as he attempts to plays the role of spoiler to Romney's presidential ambitions.

The next showdown in the Republican nominating contest will be in Wisconsin on April 3. Maryland and the District of Columbia also vote that day.

Santorum has pledged to stay in the race until the party's convention in August, and is likely to take heart from results in March, a month when he has won seven state contests despite failing to chip away at Romney's delegate lead.

For Romney, Louisiana's results suggest that he continues to struggle with the most conservative element of the Republican Party, some of whom distrust his Mormon religion and history of changing positions on social issues.

"Mitt Romney would be really good at creating jobs, but the pro-life issue is one of my main things," said Cheryl Stephens, 56, of Monroe.

Exit polls showed that a now-infamous comment this week by a Romney aide, that the election could be reset like an Etch-A-Sketch after the primaries, might have given Santorum a late lift. Santorum and Gingrich made frequent campaign appearances brandishing the popular toy, and chiding Romney for what they said were his inconsistent positions.

Nineteen percent of voters said the comment was "important" to their vote, and of those, 60 percent went for Santorum.

Food And Drink ? Vegan Carrot Cake For Healthy Eaters

Below is a tasty vegan carrot cake recipe. If you?ve followed my prior recipes, you?ll know that I?m a massive fan of carrot cake recipe that are simple and delicious, and the one I?m going to share with you is not an exception to that rule. This is a vegan recipe, as I said, which means that it does not use any animal products.

Some vegans try to ensure that all edible foods are absent of animal content. Some people will go to great lengths in pursuit of this information. Not long ago I watched a documentary that highlighted animal products in food products that we would usually imagine are completely animal product free. Products like jelly beans and marshmallows (gelatin), mustard (eggs), shortbread (shortening) and even some breakfast cereals. This recipe, however, is 100% free of all animal products so it?s absolutely ideal for vegans.

The ingredients you will need are as follows:

- 1 cup soy milk

- 2 cups grated carrots

- Three (3) cups flour

- Two (2) cups water

- One cup sugar

- Half a teaspoon salt

- One and a half (1 1/2) teaspoons baking soda

- One and a half (1 1/2) cups raisins

- One and a half teaspoons cinnamon

- One and a half teaspoons allspice

- 1/2 teaspoon cloves

Preparation directions for this cake recipe:

1. Make sure that your oven is preheated to 350F (or will be once you?ve finished preparing everything ? about ten (10) minutes).

2. In a saucepan, mix together the water, raisins, carrots and spices. Bring to boiling point then simmer for eight minutes. Add the salt and sugar and continue to simmer for two (2) minutes longer. Now mix in the remainder of the ingredients.

3. Switch off the stove and continue to stir the blend continuously until it cools down.

4. In a large bowl, blend the flour with the bicarbonate of soda and the carrot and raisin blend. Fold these ingredients together.

5. Pour the batter into a lightly greased baking pan and place in the oven uncovered for approximately fifty (50) minutes. Keep a watch on it after half an hour as all ovens do vary a little. When it appears to be finished, poke the middle of the cake with a skewer and if no batter sticks to the skewer, remove the pan from the oven and permit it to cool for ten minutes.

That?s all that it takes to make a scrumptious vegan carrot cake recipe at home! I bet you thought it to be harder didn?t you? Let me know what you thought of it!

A Battle Royale online over origin of 'The Hunger Games'

Some claim that 'The Hunger Games' is a rip-off of the 1999 Japanese series 'Battle Royale.' But the storyline of a death match being employed by authoritarian rulers dates back to the Roman Empire.

It's not unusual that "The Hunger Games" movie's arrival in theaters has been accompanied by feverish anticipation on the Internet. The online world is easily and often set ablaze by enthusiastic fandom, and Susanne Collins' wildly popular series of novels about a dystopian future where teenagers fight to the death on television has sold millions of copies.

But it's not just fandom that's fueling "The Hunger Games" online fire. It's also being fed by controversy: specifically, whether Ms. Collins' series is a "rip-off" of Japanese novel "Battle Royale."

Certainly, the debate online is energetic. A quick Google search of "hunger games battle royale" turns up half a million results with headlines like "Why the 'The Hunger Games's Snub of 'Battle Royale' Matters," "5 Reasons The Hunger Games Isn't Battle Royale," and "Who Would Win in a Fight?: Battle Royale vs. The Hunger Games." YouTubers debate the similarities and differences among clips and trailers of the originals.?

A description of Koushun Takami?s book, published in 1999, makes those similarities clear. In a near-future dystopia, a despotic government selects teenagers by lottery to participate in the titular competition, in which the youths are thrown into the wilderness with a variety of weapons in order to participate in a televised death match. There are also commercial similarities: Battle Royale, too, made a successful jump to the big screen in a 2000 cult-classic release directed by Kinji Fukasaku. (Quentin Tarantino called it his "favorite movie of the last 20 years.")

But proponents of "The Hunger Games" being its own work have plausible arguments too. They note that?"The Hunger Games" is at its heart a science-fiction story set long after a global war, whereas "Battle Royale" is more of a near-future, modern-world thriller. They also argue that "Games" is about broader revolutionary themes, while "Battle" is focused on simple, visceral survival. And of course, the violent, bloody "Battle" is not the young adult novel that "Games"?is.

Despite their fans' passion over the heritage of "Games," neither author appears interested in fueling the debate. Collins told The New York Times that she only learned of Battle Royale after she submitted her first book to her publisher. ?I had never heard of that book or that author until my book was turned in. At that point, it was mentioned to me, and I asked my editor if I should read it. He said: ?No, I don?t want that world in your head. Just continue with what you?re doing.? ?? And Takami told ABC News that he was amused by the debate, though he appreciated his fans' enthusiasm.

All in all, it seems to be another case of there being nothing new under the sun. After all, both novels and movies were predated by Stephen King's novella-turned-blockbuster "The Running Man," which was about ? surprise, surprise ? a reality-television death match run by a totalitarian government in a dystopian future. All three stories drew from books like George Orwell's "1984" and William Golding's "Lord of the Flies." And if one follows the trail back long enough, you eventually reach the Roman circuses, which were ? you guessed it ? real death matches employed by absolute rulers to keep the population in line.

And so long as their readers enjoy their stories, the authors are not concerned. "I think every novel has something to offer," says Takami. "If readers find value in either book, that?s all an author can ask for."

Rihanna and Ashton Kutcher: Rumored One-Night Stand Alert!

On Tuesday around midnight, according to TMZ, Rihanna pulled up at Ashton Kutcher’s house. A blurry pic of Rih in her SUV (with her security detail) was posted online as the celebrity gossip site claimed she stayed at his bachelor pad until 4 a.m.

Surprisingly, though, TMZ's story has been taken down.

Rihanna-anna-annaAshton Close-Up

We can imagine that, whatever they were up to (and we're guessing it wasn't any sort of business collaboration) Ashton wouldn't be thrilled about the story.

But what's the harm, really? Did he threaten them to take the photos and/or the whole story down? And why would they comply if it was so obviously true?

TMZ of all sites is usually extremely accurate and willing to stand by its reporting. Shady, maybe, but not wrong, nor on the wrong side of the law. Weird.

In any case, that's what allegedly happened before the story got killed. And we can see it happening more easily than we can Johnny Depp and Ashley Olsen.

It's hardly the first time we've seen Ice Cream Sandwich parading around on a phone that shipped with MeeGo, but for those waiting for a proper, (semi) stable release to try it on their own N9, heads-up. NITDroid forum administration e-yes has laid out alpha release numero uno, dubbed Project Mayhem, which brings Android 4.0.3 to one of the most beautiful pieces of handset hardware to ever exist. As for things "expected" to work? Dual-boot operation without reflashing, 3D drivers, multitouch, USB networking, Bluetooth, charging and a whole host of other niceties. There's a demo after the break for the nonbelievers, and those with plenty of time (and wits) can get to cracking down in the source link.

[Thanks, Bikfalvi]

Deciding upon Advice In Commercial Real Estate | Fish Information

In the commercial real estate world, it is important to know what to look for when purchasing a policy. That is where smart purchasing comes in handy. Be sure to follow these tips to help you learn what you need to to avoid scams and save money on commercial property policies.

If one buys undeveloped land they can sometime make a large amount of money when another buyer wants to purchase it to develop it for real estate. If the person who originally bought the land has the means to they can also develop the real estate themselves to make more than selling the land undeveloped would.

Make sure you have a current property appraisal before heading in order to try to get financing. The bank may require an additional appraisal but having this information already in hand will go a long way towards approval. Having the property appraised will also make sure that you aren?t wasting your time on a losing proposition.

Look for motivated sellers when searching for commercial properties. Some may be ready and eager to sell below market value. If you can find a seller like that they will be much more likely to negotiate with you. You will be able to find a better deal this way.

Know your needs before you even start looking for a commercial real estate. Make a list of the property features most important for you, such as square footage, number of offices, conference rooms and restrooms. Don?t expect the landlord to find out what your needs are and how much you can spend on your new location. Pop to RV Sales ? a closer look for in-depth data.

In the past, real estate was an almost sure investment, but these days it is more like a game of poker. It is not completely luck based, but even the people who have the best skill at the game are occasionally given a bad hand in the current market.

Before you make a large investment in real estate, take a look at local income levels, unemployment rates and the expansion or contraction of local employers. If your house is near a hospital, university or other large employment centers, they will usually sell quicker and also, at a higher value.

Commercial real estate is a rocky venture right now with the economy in the slumps and real estate sales suffering. Be careful with your investments and explore all options before jumping in to any legal agreements. The advice in this article will help you safely invest in commercial real estate.

Restaurant Industry Shows More Signs of Recovery | tsrmag.com ...

Notably, the U.S. Census Bureau?s retail sales estimates for February show restaurant sales hitting a new record high for the tenth consecutive month, the National Restaurant Association pointed out.

The ?food services and drinking places? category recorded total sales of $43.4 billion for the month (adjusted for seasonal factors and trading days). That was up less than 1% versus January 2012, but up 8.2% versus adjusted February 2011 sales for the industry.

Furthermore, for the 12 months through January 2012, sales at full-service restaurants were 8.7% higher than in the previous 12 months ?- the fastest growth pace since the late 1990s, when the economy was booming, reported The New York Times.

The sales gains at full-service restaurants -? which range from moderately priced fast-casual chains to top-end establishments -? also considerably outpaced those of limited-service restaurants or QSRs, which survived the worst of the recession far better than their sit-down counterparts, as consumers elected to trade down for their less-numerous eating-out occasions.

Moreover, over the past 20 years, stronger growth in full-service restaurant sales and slowing of growth in limited-service sales have generally coincided with growth in gross domestic product/economic improvement, Times economic writer Floyd Norris pointed out (although he also noted that current economic indicators show that the economy is growing more slowly than the full-service/limited-service restaurants trend indicator, which may in part be a factor of the different timing of reporting for these numbers.) ?

The data show Americans now spending about $220 billion per year in full-service restaurants, $211 billion in limited-service restaurants, and $21 billion in bars.

While Americans are coping with significantly higher gas prices (those jumped 6% in February), grocery prices were flat for the first time since July 2010, and wholesale food prices edged down 0.3% (following declines of 0.5% and 0.7% in December 2011 and January 2012).

Perhaps in part reflecting less inflationary pressure on restaurants? costs, menu prices posted their smallest monthly gain in more than a year in February (0.1%), down from 0.4%? in January. While restaurant operators of course seek to improve their margins by raising prices and/or check size wherever feasible, stable or moderately higher restaurant costs may also be encouraging the trend to dine out more frequently.

In addition, the National Restaurant Association?s industry tracking data continue to show optimistic trends.

In January, its overall industry health index, the Restaurant Performance Index (RPI) stood at 101.3. While that was down from December?s strong level of 102.2, January marked the third consecutive month that the RPI stood above 100, which signifies expansion based on various key industry indicators.

?Restaurant operators reported positive same-store sales for the eighth consecutive month and a majority of them expect business to continue to improve in the months ahead,? reported Hudson Riehle, SVP of the association?s Research and Knowledge Group.

In addition, Packaged Facts recently estimated that U.S. restaurant sales will grow 4.2% in 2012, on top of 6.1% growth in 2011. The research firm also estimated 8.1% growth in full-service restaurant sales last year, including a slight rebound in fine dining (although it added that the return to 2007 spending levels remains a ?very steep curve.?)

Mintel, too, recently reported positive indicators based on its consumer tracking. Fully 65% of respondents who had visited a restaurant in the past month indicated that they will spend the same amount at restaurants in 2012 and 12% plan to spend more this year. Among that 12%, 59% said they will spend more in casual restaurants, and 57% said they will spend more in family restaurants.

Of course, along with the economy, the restaurant industry is not out of the woods just yet. As Packaged Facts noted, U.S. households with incomes of $100,000 or more account for more than a third of restaurant spending, although they comprise just 17% of total households. And while the numbers of higher-income and lower-income households has grown since 2007, the number of middle-income households has declined.

?Because restaurant spending correlates to household income, the crimping of the middle class is a major hurdle for the industry, as it is of course for the national economy overall,? noted Packaged Facts? analysts, in its ?Foodservice Landscape in the U.S.? report.

Also, while total sales for U.S. full-service restaurants grew considerably last year, many went out of business. The number of these restaurants declined by 12,000 operators, or 3.8%, according to CHD Expert, a foodservice research provider. Limited-service restaurants saw fewer closures: down by 4,000, or 1.3%.

However, fast-casual chains offering ?fresh, diverse? menus continued to thrive. In addition, ?American traditional? and? ?American regional? menu types increased by more than 7.5%, and Asian restaurants, and bars and grills increased by more than 2%, CHD reported.

AP Interview: Prince Ali wants Asian clout in FIFA

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) ? Prince Ali bin Al Hussein is hoping to bring more positive change to FIFA and help boost Asia's influence in world soccer after spearheading a campaign against a ban on Islamic women wearing hijabs during matches.

The FIFA vice president said in an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday that he hopes to contribute ideas on anti-corruption reform, which is expected to be discussed next week in Zurich.

"I'm optimistic that there will be positive change," Prince Ali said. "Obviously, we realize that things have to evolve, and I have full faith that we will evolve in a realistic way for the benefit of the sport."

The 36-year-old Jordanian prince is the youngest member of FIFA's 24-member executive committee. The committee likely will receive a report from a panel of experts next week advising FIFA on becoming more democratic, transparent and rigorous in its investigations.

"It's a very interesting time to be coming into FIFA, and therefore I have a lot of ideas," Prince Ali said. "I hope to continue to contribute, also in bringing the voice of Asia in a powerful way to this organization. We are, after all, the largest continent."

Prince Ali said that since he became FIFA vice president in January 2011, the campaign against the hijab ban "was one of my first proposals and challenges, and it was challenging, but I'm happy about the way things have gone."

The International Football Association Board took a step this month toward allowing female players to wear hijabs during games, five years after banning the headscarves because of safety reasons.

Prince Ali was optimistic an accelerated process to further test a design that holds the headscarves in place with safe Velcro fasteners will proceed smoothly ahead of the ratification of the decision in July.

His campaign against the hijab ban won the backing of the United Nations, which urged FIFA to give everyone the equal right to play soccer. Iran forfeited an Olympic women's qualifier against Jordan last June because players refused to play without hijabs.

Prince Ali said match-fixing was another problem that FIFA needs to handle better.

"Match-fixing is a huge issue that we have not only in our continent but all over the world," he said. "A lot of times you see those who are doing it are always ahead of the others, and I've always said even with FIFA that we need to put more resources into those who are tackling the issue."

Speaking about his hopes for his country in the final Asian qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup, Prince Ali expressed "full confidence in my boys," but acknowledged Jordan was in a "very tough group" with Australia, Japan, Iraq and Oman.

The Jordanian players "have a great fighting spirit, and I think we might just be the big surprise in this group," he said. "Any country that represents Asia represents us all, definitely, but obviously I hope that Jordan will be there."

The PR Toolkit for Nonprofits: Will Nonprofit News Coverage Really ...

When the New York Times announced it?was reassigning writer Stephanie Strom from the philanthropy and nonprofit?beat to business coverage (and nixing the philanthropy beat), it drew attention from Chronicle of Philanthropy and consternation in the twitter-sphere.

The Chronicle opined it was:?"a move that could make it harder for nonprofits to get their stories told to a national audience." The Chronicle also noted that the New York Times was one of the last daily newspapers to employ a reporter to cover national nonprofits on a full-time basis.

But I'm not so sure that nonprofit news coverage is really going to suffer so badly because there is no reporter devoted to philanthropy at the New York Times.

Strom's work on the philanthropy beat was certainly admirable. In 2012, she published about withering excitement on text message donations, Blackbaud offering to buy Convio, a profile of a billionaire helping rebuild Haiti, and the challenges facing MIT and Harvard when collaborating to build the Broad Institute.?Not a lot for two months worth of coverage, but her editors at the NYT clearly needed her to help out with campaign coverage, as her byline pops up a lot?with stories in that area too.

Missing from her coverage were some of the?trending nonprofit stories of our day, including the Komen/Planned Parenthood tussle,? the layaway philanthropy phenomena where people were going to stores and paying off layaway accounts to help people in need, and the?Second?Mile charity?that was embroiled in the Sandusky scandal. While the New York Times covered all of those stories, it used other reporters to write them.

One could argue that it's far better for nonprofit news to be spread across the newsroom with multiple reporters and popping up in several reporting beats, than to be pigeonholed with only one reporter. Just this week, J.? David Goodman published an interesting story in the New York Times on the lessons nonprofits are learning from the Kony 2012 video.

So?how many "national nonprofits"?really got?coverage written by Stephanie Strom in the New York Times? Not that many. Looking back at 2011, here's what Strom actually wrote about on the philanthropy beat:

  • December - Cornell being chosen to build a new science school in NYC, a leadership change at the Soros Open Society Foundations.
  • November - philanthropic foundations buying stock in for profit companies, Salvation Army bell ringers accepting mobile payments, a wealthy couple donating $150 million to Stanford University's Instutute for Innovation in Developing Economies, a protest by homeless people outside the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's headquarters drawing attention to funding cuts and the need for more nonprofit support, and Congress asking the IRS for oversight of nonprofit hospitals.
  • October - a profile of Wal-Mart Foundation's new leader, the creation of hybrid flexible-purpose?companies that turn a profit but place social goals ahead of making money, and church pastors tackling politics from the pulpit.
  • September - PepsiCo's expansion of its chickpea crop in Ethiopia?with extra food being utilized by the World Food Program, a billionaire hedge fund manager founding the Center for the Next Generation,??GOOD's acquisition of Jumo, the state of California's scrutiny of nonprofit tax exemptions,
  • August - how famine relief doesn't get donations when it's not covered in the media
  • July - philanthropists require nonprofits to take management courses, three advocacy groups losing tax-exempt status, the IRS drops audits of donors to political groups, and the World Bank's work in humanitarian response

Should the nonprofit world be lamenting Stephanie Strom's reassignment to the business beat? No. We should rejoice to see a reporter?on the business beat?who understands?the nonprofit world. I've heard?Robert Egger and other nonprofit leaders?talk about seeing nonprofits as businesses, and it's time for nonprofits to accept their role in this sector and ask for media coverage. We should not just be asking for human interest stories with the features editor.?If our nonprofits serve particular niche?audiences or industries, we should pitch coverage ideas to reporters?covering those?areas.?We should also be pursuing stories that look at the multi-billion dollar nonprofit?sector as a legitimate entity in its own right from the business desk.
