Certified personal trainers Rickey and Brenda Thomas recently made the decision to open their own training facility. ?We started looking in the Sylvania area because we live here and many of our clients are from the area. When we found this location, we knew it would be perfect for us,? Mrs. Thomas said. They leased the former Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce space, Suite 9 in the Thormont Building at 6616 Monroe St.
?This is just ideal,? Mrs. Thomas reflected. ?This was just the right size and it was move-in ready. We didn?t even have to paint the walls,? Mr. Thomas pointed out. ?And the space is just right to accommodate the equipment we use,? he said. That equipment includes a treadmill, a dumb bell weight lifting section, free weights, exercise balls, bands and an Inspire workout machine that offers almost a complete workout in itself, according to Mr. Thomas.
?Our clients enjoy the privacy of this location,? Mrs. Thomas noted. ?And, it is convenient for out clients with the municipal parking lot behind the building,? she said. Mrs. Thomas said she also takes advantage of several nearby outdoor venues such as the Northview hill, weather permitting, for clients? workouts.
?Not only are we affordable, we are also accommodating. We play the kind of music our clients request and we schedule appointments to meet their time commitments. We also work around physical issues. We tailor training sessions to meet the needs of each individual,? Mrs. Thomas said.
The T&T Xtreme Health and Fitness client list includes children as young as 9 through mature adults. ?Our oldest client is 92,? Mr. Thomas said. ?We have people from all walks of life including teens, housewives, physicians, attorneys, teachers, and more. We even have state of Ohio wrestling champion,? Mr. Thomas related.
In addition to personal training, boot camps and classes along with kickboxing are offered. A Friday Fun Fit Kids program includes one hour of warm-ups, a walk or some other outdoor exercise, weather permitting, games, circuit training, obstacles and various kid-friendly exercises.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas have over 42 years of combined experience in health and fitness. Mrs. Thomas grew up participating in martial arts and working out. She became a certified personal trainer five years ago.
Mr. Thomas, a retired Army First Sergeant with 24 years of active duty serving as an instructor. He was a health, physical fitness and conditioning instructor in the Military Science Department at the University of Michigan. He currently serves as the JROTC instructor at Springfield High School. He also captured a second place spot in the Glass City Sceptor? all-natural body building competition last May.
